Super Senior

2023 Super Senior

This year’s Super Senior is Dan Swenson.

Dan Swenson, known to many as “Grandpa Dan”, is a long-time resident of South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights.

Dan’s contributions to Kaposia Days began in the 1970’s when he served as president of the festival and on the Board of Directors.  Dan and his wife, Carol, individually and collectively served on the Kaposia Days Board of Directors for over three decades.  He was also instrumental in redesigning the logo that the festival still uses today.

Devoted to the community of South Saint Paul for over 30 years, Dan has served as president of the PTA and president of Luther Memorial Church.  He sat on several board of directors including SSP Parks and Rec, Neighbors, Inc., and Town Square Television. He could often be found at the ballpark or volunteering at a Chamber of Commerce fundraising event.

Dan and his wife, Carol, thrived in the spirit of volunteerism, not only through Kaposia Days, but also with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival.  Dan’s involvement with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival dates back to 1977 when he joined the Order of the Royal Guard. This would spark an almost forty-year commitment of community giving! Together with his wife, Carol, they would become one of the most well-known and respected couples in the SPWC realm. Dan and Carol were honored to receive the distinguished Sal & Francesca LoBaido Volunteer Service Award in 2006.

Although Dan is proud of his many accomplishments, his true source of pride is his family. Behind every grandchild is a grandparent that is very grateful and extremely happy to be a part of their lives; and none more than Dan, affectionately known as “Grumpa” to his family.  Dan’s not so humble brag is his granddaughters Marta, Jenna, Riley and Liv.

Congratulations, Dan and thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for Kaposia Days!
